John Wessels – Senior Vice President

Lead by Example.

John believes showing customers they come first is a lot more powerful than merely saying customers comes first. That’s what he does on a daily basis at Farmers & Merchants Bank—talks with people, understands their needs and exceeds their expectations.

In the 34 years John has been with the bank, he has continued to uphold their mission and vision. John started as a teller and worked his way up the ranks, having spent considerable time in different departments, understanding the business and what it takes to remain relevant.

John doesn’t just focus on helping folks coming into the bank but also those out in the community. A big part of the Farmers & Merchants Bank culture is to give back when you can and as much as you can. John has done his fair share of serving on boards for local nonprofits and is currently on the board of directors for the Day Foundation, which funds college scholarship and other civic programs in the area.

In his free time, John loves traveling with his wife and kids and spending time outdoors, especially during hunting and fishing season. Around the holidays, he’s the first one to spread cheer far and wide, since Christmas happens to be his favorite holiday. Let’s just say, he makes Santa proud.
